FIDI FAIMPLUS: Independently Audited International Moving Standards

For an international relocation, FIDI is one of NUSS's most important external credentials.

It provides something customers can verify independently rather than relying solely on what a removal company says about its own standards.

What Is FIDI?

The FIDI Global Alliance is an international alliance of professional moving and relocation companies, with affiliated companies operating across more than 100 countries.

Becoming a FIDI Affiliate involves meeting its FAIM quality requirements and continuing to demonstrate compliance with those standards.

What Is FAIM?

FAIM is FIDI's quality certification programme for professional international moving and relocation companies.

The standard assesses areas including:

  • operational procedures
  • service quality
  • supply-chain management
  • risk management
  • data protection
  • regulatory compliance
  • financial stability

FIDI-certified companies are subject to ongoing compliance requirements, including independent third-party audits currently conducted by EY. The programme also includes internal assessment and financial review requirements. For NUSS, this means its FAIM compliance is assessed externally rather than relying only on the company’s own claims.

What Does FIDI Top Performer Mean?

NUSS is listed by FIDI as a Top Performer.

Under FIDI's audit framework, performance is measured using Non-Compliant Values, or NCVs. The Top Performer criteria require zero NCVs on audit day together with the applicable pre-audit and annual compliance requirements.

NUSS achieved a 100% FIDI compliance audit result, independently assessed by EY.

That is the evidence behind the Top Performer status.

What Does This Mean for Your International Move?

An international relocation involves considerably more than packing a container in Sydney. Depending on the destination, the move can include:

  • professional export packing
  • detailed inventories
  • international freight
  • customs documentation
  • destination clearance
  • temporary storage
  • onward transport
  • final home delivery

FAIM provides an independently audited operating framework for the international-moving side of that process.

NUSS coordinates with established destination moving partners through its international networks. This allows the overseas stages to form part of the same door-to-door relocation, rather than requiring you to find another mover after your belongings leave Australia.

AFRA: Australian Accreditation for Professional Removalists

For local and interstate moves within Australia, AFRA, the Australian Furniture Removers Association, provides another useful external benchmark.

NUSS is listed by AFRA as R.J. Nuss Removals.

What Is AFRA?

AFRA is Australia's peak industry body for professional furniture removalists.

Its role includes industry accreditation, compliance, training and education.

Removal companies applying for membership are assessed against AFRA requirements, with members also subject to ongoing compliance expectations.

What Does AFRA Accreditation Cover?

AFRA's requirements and member standards cover areas including:

  • public liability insurance
  • appropriate moving equipment
  • staff training
  • workplace health and safety
  • industry procedures
  • business practices
  • dispute-resolution processes

NUSS's AFRA accreditation therefore gives customers an external industry standard against which the business can be checked.

What Does This Mean for Your Move?

Anyone can advertise moving services.

AFRA accreditation gives customers a way to distinguish a removal company that has been assessed against recognised industry requirements from an operator with no comparable accreditation.

That is particularly relevant when comparing removalists for a local Sydney or interstate move.

OMNI & IAM: Global Connections Behind International Moves

NUSS does not claim to own trucks, warehouses and moving crews in every country it services.

International moving works through experienced origin and destination companies coordinating different parts of the same relocation.

NUSS's memberships with OMNI and the International Association of Movers (IAM) support those international relationships.

OMNI: Overseas Moving Network International

OMNI connects established international moving companies across origin and destination services. NUSS draws on these relationships when coordinating the overseas stages of a relocation.

Depending on your move, the appointed destination partner may assist with:

  • Customs guidance and clearance arrangements.
  • Destination storage and onward transport.
  • Home delivery and unpacking where included.

Your NUSS consultant remains your primary NUSS contact while these services are coordinated. The services included in your move are set out in your quotation.

IAM: International Association of Movers

The International Association of Movers is a large global association representing moving, forwarding, logistics and related businesses across more than 170 countries.

IAM provides member companies with access to an international industry network, professional resources, information and training.

For NUSS, this provides another established international connection when coordinating relocations across a broad range of destinations.

Why FIDI, OMNI and IAM All Matter

These organisations play different roles, FIDI FAIM provides NUSS's independently audited international moving standard.

OMNI and IAM strengthen NUSS's connections across the international moving industry.

Together, these memberships and industry relationships help NUSS coordinate the overseas stages of international moves through established destination partners. NUSS provides international relocation services to more than 180 countries without suggesting it operates its own trucks and crews in every destination.

How to Check a Removalist's Credentials

Accreditations are useful because they give you something that can actually be checked.

Before choosing a removalist, ask questions that reveal how the company operates rather than relying solely on logos, reviews or marketing claims.

Are You AFRA Accredited?

For an Australian move, check whether the removal company is currently listed by AFRA rather than relying only on an AFRA logo displayed on its website.

NUSS is an AFRA-accredited removalist.

Are You FIDI FAIM Certified?

For an international move, check whether the company appears in FIDI's current Affiliate directory and whether its certification is current.

NUSS is listed by FIDI and appears as a FIDI Top Performer.

Who Will Actually Handle My Move?

For a local or interstate relocation, ask who will collect, transport and deliver your belongings. For an international relocation, ask:

  • who manages the Sydney stage
  • who the destination moving partner will be
  • who coordinates customs
  • who handles destination delivery
  • who remains your main contact throughout the move

NUSS coordinates international relocations through destination moving partners while your NUSS consultant remains your primary point of contact.

Is My Quote Based on an Actual Survey?

A useful quotation needs to reflect what is actually being moved and the services required.

NUSS provides a written quotation once the home and shipment have been assessed through the agreed survey process. Changes to the inventory, access, packing requirements, storage, moving date or applicable third-party freight costs can change the eventual scope and price.

What Insurance Is Included?

Do not assume transit insurance is included simply because a removal company describes itself as insured.

With NUSS, transit and storage insurance are optional rather than automatically included.

Comprehensive replacement-value cover may be available for eligible professionally packed shipments. Different restrictions can apply where belongings are packed by the owner.

Your consultant can provide the applicable insurance information before you decide what cover is appropriate.

Can I See Evidence of Your Credentials?

A removalist should be able to explain:

  • who grants the accreditation or membership
  • whether independent auditing is involved
  • what standards apply
  • whether the credential is current
  • where it can be independently verified

That is the purpose of this page.

NUSS's key credentials can be checked directly through the organisations that issue or maintain them.

What These Credentials Mean for Different Types of Moves

Different credentials become relevant depending on where you are moving.

Local and interstate moves
AFRA provides an Australian industry benchmark covering professional removal operations and business practices.

International moves
FIDI FAIM provides the independently audited international moving framework, while OMNI and IAM support connections with established moving companies across global destinations.

The important point is not simply how many industry logos a removalist can display. It is whether those credentials are current, verifiable and relevant to the move you are actually undertaking.

Move With Confidence With NUSS

NUSS has operated since 1892, but current, verifiable credentials also matter when choosing a removalist. Today, NUSS is a FIDI FAIMPLUS Top Performer, an AFRA-accredited removalist and a member of OMNI and IAM.

These credentials provide external standards, independent auditing where applicable and established industry connections that can be checked before you decide who should handle your move.
